Overall, I think Timbaland's Shock Value is interesting-- interesting in the way that a genius producer, who is not typically a singer, songwriter, or musician, can still put together an album that is diverse in musical genres but is still palatable.  The first four tracks on the album are definitely recognizable as the Timbaland that we've come to ( Read more... )

I actually had the complete opposite reaction. I thought there were small bits that I liked (the chorus in Time, One & Only with Fall Out Boy, and Bombay--all the non Timbaland bits) but for the most part, it was really self-indulgent. It's all about how awesome he thinks he is. I can deal with that sort of arrogance from Justin, because he's pretty, but Timbaland? Not so much. He's a great producer, and I wish he'd stick with that, it's what he's good at. Having seen him live twice now, I can say that the man can't sing and has the stage presence of a rock. Sooooo.

Re: Give It to Me--I have no idea who Nelly Furtado's verse is about (some people think Fergie), but Timbaland's is about Scott Storch (Here's an article about it). Storch is a producer who used to be Timbaland's apprentice. They had a falling out when Timbaland refused to give Storch producing credits on 'Cry Me A River,' which Storch claims to have come up with the beats/production for.

There should be a celeb death match b/t Tim and Storch. Would be fun. JT could be the towel boy. I'm sweating already.

Haha. They're battling it out through bad hip hop. It's almost as good. Scott Storch did a song in response to Give It to Me, it's on youtube somewhere :P
