I'm glad that you liked AW in 24; and the thing is, I would have probably liked Erin if I had seen LFN first. It has been years since I've seen that season of 24, but I have this general memory of the season being awful until my favorite character showed up around 7:00 PM.

It is kind of funny that I have went to great lengths to track down movies with AW in them, but I can't be bothered to rewatch S4 of 24 and I own it.

Lol. I think having seen her as Madeline is why I like Erin. Erin is kind of like Madeline, except with having to answer for her actions and in possession of fully functional emotions or something - and the daughter storyline was really interesting, even if it did seem sort of out of place in the show. Also, I might have liked her because I dislike Jack; they go head to head a lot, especially in the early episodes, and while his way ended up being more effective in the long run, her way made more sense and was less vigilante-style, so... I liked her. Lol.

Hey - I kind of dropped off the internet for about a week, but I managed to find those shows you were looking for on my computer. I will be sending them ASAP!

Oh, I know exactly how you feel. I spent today watching period movies on my Watch Instantly (Vanity Fair and Shakespeare in Love, if you're curious) and now I'm totally addicted. So many things to watch, so little time!

I didn't hate AW's character on 24, but I did think it was a waste of her talent--she could have been a genuinely compelling female leader but was instead turned into a plot device to show how brilliant Jack is. A lot of the obstructive things she did didn't really seem to have a reason other than to create conflict that just felt artificial anyway.

I definitely agree that her character could have been written far better. I think that my brain automatically separates who the character is from the things they're doing, which makes no sense, I know, but it happens. Lol. I approached the more ridiculous things they had her do with the same hand-waving which which I approached LFN season four - simply because it was very obvious that her objections and arguments were being presented as a conflict simply to give Jack something to overcome and make him look better, and I found it annoying. Especially when most of his actions were definitely vigilante-style at best, and quite a few of his "victories" were either sheer dumb luck or didn't ultimately lend much toward the end resolution anyway. But then, I might be biased because I really and truly despise the character Jack Bauer. No idea why, but he irritates me immensely - as is evidenced by the fact that the minute AW's part in the season was over, I stopped watching and didn't really care what happened to the rest of them. Lol ( ... )
