Of Endings.

I should probably end my hiatus on LJ. I'd rather me journaling to my own side, but frankly this is more convenient and if I want people to read it I'll put it here. I've been posting mostly to hitmenforhire.com lately, but that's really only for techy topics and I can go a little overboard on that sometimes... mostly at the cost of creative ( Read more... )

no, no, don't leave out your "gonna get a master's degree" plans. anyone who tells you to do so is, *ahem* stupid. or unmotivated. or jealous that you're actually seeking to improve your life by *GASP* daring to further your education (zomg, totally UNHEARD OF. :P)

that's all I have to say. well that, and yay, you're back!

Except that by saying it he really DOES decrease his chances for getting a job. They won't hire him if they think he'll be unfulfilled with his potential being wasted, and especially will be less likely if he's just going to leave to get schooling done. :) Some things you just don't tell when on an interview, since otherwise they either won't want to hold you back, or won't want to risk losing you afterwards. Either way, hard up on you, so best to just keep it to a minimum.

Then again, it'd be best to get a job where they WANT that sort of thing, anyway, such as the actuarial things you've been talking about, right Jack?

He's right, I've been trying to convey "I will be so good at this that you'll promote me, and I already have the credentials to be promoted", but it's been coming across as "you're just a stepping stone, I'll be gone in a year tops. If not from this company, then from this post, which is what you care about right now".

The vibe I've been getting from forums at actuarialoutpost is:

Be educated. If you don't have 3+ years of university don't even join this forum, and don't even think about getting a job here if you're not prepared to do lots of school beyond your BSc. You there, the girl with 3 PhDs and enough math to kill an elephant, you we want to talk to.

So yeah, it's a job for people that want to do a lot of math and school. That's me. Also, I've decided to take on a specialty of enviromental risk on top once I master actuarial science, so that I can not only do something I naturally gravitate to, but the result will be something I really care about.

well, the way I reason it is... if you aren't being encouraged to improve yourself, and are thus being rejected for daring to do so, then the job really must not be for you anyway.

so good luck with the acturialoutpost thing. :D
