I can understand them in the sense of people gifting them to others, though. Every Christmas, my father gives me a $150 gift card instead of straight cash, so I can use it on whatever I want.

But if they're one of the types that think "I'll put my money on this card so I can budget better!", yeah, that's B.S. People need to either use that handy tracker they give you with your bank account, or get a notebook and write down how much they spent. Saves time and money to boot.

Green Dot cards aren't for gifts, though. People buy these to use for themselves every day. And they reload them every time they run out of money! Some people buy them so they can make an online purchase, but you can do that with a debit card. FOR FREE.

I really don't know why people use these. My dad thinks it's because they don't want the IRS seizing all their assets, so they don't create bank accounts. He's probably right.

Yeah, that's where it starts getting pretty ridiculous. =P Although the IRS bit is prolly the most logical reason behind it.
