Title: Everything

Only Gwen attended the funeral.
She was the only one who knew what Estelle had meant to him. So afterwards when she asked, he told her everything about their time together. Every detail he could remember. Every dance, every letter, every fight, every kiss… everything.
He told her how it had killed him when he’d had to walk away. How it hurt as she had grown older without him. How it had felt when he pretended to be his own son just so he could see her. Be near her.
Gwen simply listened and held him long into the night.

Driving. They were driving, she realized. And talking. No, only Suzie was talking.
“But I get to live. Why would I stop?”
It’s faint and loud, and all she wants to do is reach over, and just whisper his name, let him know she is ok.
Suzie is rambling, about replacements and how it’s not fair. She reaches clumsily in front of her and smears some blood on the dash. All she can think of is her head, splitting wide, and her heart breaking, and her life... her life draining away.
Would Jack know her last thoughts were of him?

Owen walks away, but Jack doesn't.
He never will.
He follows Gwen into the forest to see her crouched behind a tree, her face in her hands.
'Dorothy just found out she's not in Kansas anymore.'
He lets her cry, watching over her, until he can't take it anymore and pulls her up into an embrace.
She sobs silently into his chest, shaking more than the leaves around them.
He wonders how many times he'll have to embrace her like this, to make her feel safe, and inside he knows the answer.
As many times as she needs him to.
