The mission in Santa Cruz was vandalized over the weekend. I'm glad I got a chance to go visit before this happened. I guess I never added an entry about it, but it's where I got a couple of prayer cards. The kind with a little medallion in them. I gave both of those away when I was in Chicago ( Read more... )

Weird that we both collect the saint cards, especially considering how very not religiously-inclined I am. I picked up a bunch at St. Josesph's Oratory in Montreal when I was there for a protest last year (if you ever get a chance to see that place, do so! Even a heathen like me was feeling the sacred there. Plus, it was just beautiful architecturally. Plus they have his heart in a glass case, yo. Neat. But I digress.).

But true..those tactics will never win when uses, no matter who they're used against. That shit will blow up in the vandals' faces, every single time.

A HEART?!? Gnarly! Catholics are truly morbid.

I've only got one prayer card with the little medallion in it. My friend cmerun12 sent me. She got it from the Basilica in St. Louis. Interestingly enough it's a prayer to make Father Junipero Serra a saint. He's the one whose statue got paint dumped on at Santa Cruz, and allegedly brought the baptismal font that was broken. You can't tell from the pic in the article, but a live news report showed how the other side had a big ole piece broken off.
