Most of us are more sophisticated about it, and it usually takes longer, but those are the basic steps.

If you want to watch out for jerks [and they're all over], make sure it stays at "just friends" for a very long time before you get into anything physical. If it seems like there's "progress" happening then they'll keep at it; but if it looks like they may never get some then the ones that are just in it for the sex will give up.

Always best to start as a friends. Give it awhile for most of the "crush" feelings to wear off so you can start acting sane again :-p

Actually that part is literally taken from an EverQuest relationship I witnessed...

A little cute female halfling druid was being hit on by a male high elf wizard; he asked if she liked Destiny's Child, because they were playing in the area and he wanted to take her [he may have already bought the tickets]. She declined him, partly 'cause she didn't like Destiny's Child, but also because "she" was actually a "he". Was funny to watch.
