How much money do you think you'd have to win/inherit/come into/steal without repercussion/have in order to live the rest of your life without having to work
( Read more... )
That's definitely a tricky question with a lot of pitfalls. Not the least of which is "How much of this is going to taxes?" You also have to account for the fluctuation of prices and inflation and whatnot.
I also like nice shit and would probably endlessly find ways to use more money (Already got the home theater? How about a little computer in every armrest that allows you to select from 100,000 movies titles in HD?) I'm not sure I would want to stop trying to acquire money just because I had enough to "get by on." What can I say, I'm a ruthless capitalist at heart! Also, I'd like to be able to raise a family, put the kids through school, be prepared for various set backs, etc., etc.
With that being said, I think it's reasonable to say that I could dedicate all my time to potentially fruitless pursuits (in terms of money), if I came into $10 million, and invested wisely. But then maybe sitting down with some financial planner might quickly tell me that this is more than enough, or not enough!
i have told you this before: one million dollars will yield about $25,0000 a year interest in a basic savings account. that's only slightly less than what i make. you can live the lifestyle of a globetrotting single stitcher and still have money in the bank, even if you don't know what you're doing.
i am in no mood to bicker with you on this matter as i have done nothing aggressive. i still say you could live nicely on a million's interest if needs be. personally, i'd go for a couple million so i could buy a sweet house too. fuck my non-existent children and their college education. it'll probably be free by the anyway.
Well this question is complex, I mean I never want to stop working in some capacity, and I do have dreams of owning a million dollar home, ya know? If my aspirations were to live in a 1 bedroom apartment in a low cost of living place and not have a car, well I could probably work hard for a few more years and then just coast through life. But I'd have no savings and such.
SO to answer based on how much I personally would want to acquire to feel like I could stop gaining income in traditional means and just work with investments in stock and property and such, and feel secure to reach all my dreams in life, I would say $5 Million.
But part of my dreams involve donating large amounts to charities, having Webster University name a building after me, and paying off all my friends' student loan debts, and taking friends on all expense paid vacations and such. So in that case I need a lot more money.
in exchange for your friendship i offer a lifetime of free hula hoops and unintended puns. also, there are no puns in this reply, intended or otherwise.
I'd say half a million, I'd invest and be responsible with it in exchange for no more daily drudge with people nitpicking me about dress codes, errors, taking too many bathroom trips...ugh. (Can you tell I have reached the end of my patience with my current job?)
