Bad Schedulin'!

Crap-doodle, dudes, I'm in a real bind!

The RFT Music Showcase, which was by far one of the best days of 2008 (perhaps the best, hands down), and which I have pretty well promised myself I'd never miss again, coincides with the final day of the 48 Hour Film Project, for which Pancake Productions has perennially put together a team, and which ( Read more... )

show, concerts, film, annoying, rft, 48 hour film project, dang

That reminds me of Jessica's first year at UWEC in which she got a pair of free tickets to every speaker and artist series event for the year. The one that I really wanted to attend was one with the editors of The Onion. Then what happens? She had her dissertation defense in Champaign that very day. Curses!

Yeah it's been awhile since a dilemma like this for me. Usually there's a begrudging but "I know what I HAVE to do" realization, but on this I am truly torn. I have two months or so ('til when 48HFP registration opens, in mid-April) to figure it out, though.

I don't know if it is necessarily a bigger deal. I mean, obviously if we register a team, it'll take precedent. The question is, should I even register a team?

Sure, I love to do it, and usually have plenty of enthusiastic help (which is good, because otherwise it'd never get done), but it is kinda exhausting, every year I'm like "I'll never do that again" by the time it's over (a feeling that subsides in a matter of days or less), I was pretty pumped about the showcase already, I just don't know.

I figure I will be at the Showcase after the thing is due (usually 7PM or something), but am even starting to wonder if I couldn't arrange to hit the showcase pretty early on, as I'd prefer. I guess we'll see how things transpire.

Then again, for all I know I won't be even remotely interested in seeing any of the acts at the showcase this year, or everyone who'd otherwise be on my 48HFP team is going outta town that weekend, or something.

Do the film project. It is far nobler to create something great than to merely be a witness to the greatness of others.

I'm not sure I agree entirely, but assuming I do: Will I be creating something great? There is that potential, and surely we have done so the past coupla years even if we haven't made it to the best-of screening since 2006 (judges be damned). Pretty much my favorite picture of myself ever got taken at the showcase, and as I say the Showcase was perhaps my favorite day of 2008, whereas I'd not rank the 48HFP similarly (which isn't to say they SUCKED or anything, but they aren't really in the running for favorite day[s] of 2008).

I think it is more complicated than all that, is what I'm saying!

All you ever create is stupid crappy junk for jerks.. How about you complete our movie. Oh to dream!

It's certainly more complicated than creating vs witnessing! However, there might be a way to do BOTH as you've mentioned above. Both is a good compromise.

Are you sure you want that other movie completed? I just want to make sure that you're sure.

And, you say "both," but don't you mean BOFE!?
