title: Obsession
author: jaaycakes
rating: G.. I think? xD
pairing: Jongho (Jonghyun/Minho)
genre: Angst, Romance, Drama
summary: All it took was fifteen minutes. Fifteen minutes to change their whole lives.

a/n: I’ll try to make this short, but no promises there. Anyways, hii, completely new to lj, but that’s besides the point. I just wanted to point out that this story may confuse you later on/now. I’m sorry if it does, haha. But you’ll get hints and other things along the way to somewhat hint at what the story is really about. I warn you now, I did little research prior to writing this on the main points of the story, if you happen to catch on right away (doubt it for this chapter though, this chapter has almost none of the main plot in it. It's kind of an introduction chapter). I still did research, but not enough to be an expert. So excuse me for any mistakes in the future. And.. yeah, I hope you enjoy. It’ll be quite angst-y, but I’ll put some cute romance in there b/c Jongho is my OTP and I don’t know why I’m doing this to them ;-; I’ll probably do some oneshots on the side, or another chaptered fic with this one idea that’s been playing around in my head just so there’s some happy jonghoooo. And that was all I wanted to say, lmfao sorry I failed at making it short.. Bah. Btw, the summary will get better/change as the plot picks up. I don't wanna spoil anything right now xP

I can’t even remember, I become scared

He couldn’t remember the days before Minho entered his life. The days before love was scarce, or completely lacking, in his life. The days before the tall boy completely flooded his thoughts. The days before he would hear Minho’s soothing voice daily. The days before that faithful day became irrelevant.

It was as if his life started all over again that day. And he could remember it clearly.

“Yah, Jonghyun!” A male voice called after the shorter male, who was now walking faster to escape. In all honesty, Jonghyun couldn’t remember who the voice belonged to or why he was calling after him. All he remembered was, thanks to that man, he met Minho. That man pushed him out of whatever building Jonghyun was in, into the cold winter weather.

It took about ten minutes, but after that, Jonghyun was free. Footsteps no longer trailed behind him, voices no longer called out his name. He was finally alone in silence, enjoying the scenery surrounding him.

White snow glistened on the wet pavement. Bright lights twinkled on the tall, dark trees. Tiny snowflakes fell all around him. Snowmen sat in front of warm, cozy homes. And as the sun started to set, a gentle mix of orange and pink acted as a backdrop to everything else.

He hadn’t realized it, but a small smile settled on his face as he walked around, taking in the scenery around him. After what seemed like only minutes, but in reality had been two hours, Jonghyun finally stopped and took in a deep breath just to let it out seconds later. The brown haired male finally realized it had gotten dark when he was able to see his breath clearly in front of him against the dark sky. Shocked at the sudden realization, Jonghyun snapped out of the trance he had been in.

“Aish.. It’s cold,” He whispered, cursing himself for not wearing a jacket over his thin, gray long sleeve. With a single sigh, he decided to start walking home, rather than wait for the bus to arrive. The bus took ages to reach the stop he was at and he couldn’t afford getting sick while waiting for it.

After ten minutes had passed, he realized he had underestimated the time it would take to reach his home while walking. By then, he was shivering. The tree’s seemed to be rustling less violently than he was as the cold winter breeze started to pick up.

Five more minutes had passed, and he was still far from his destination. Then, he was in an even worse condition than before. The wind picked up drastically, and snowflakes started to drop once again, but more violent than before. At that point, he was about ready to give up. It was dark. It was cold. He was alone. At least, he thought he was alone.

Without previous warning, a tall figure behind him wrapped a thick, black jacket around the shorter’s shoulders.

The sudden touch paralyzed Jonghyun with fear, who was then at a loss for words. A thousand thoughts ran through his had at that moment. Was someone about to kidnap him? Was someone about to kill him? Should he run away? Should he punch whoever was behind him? Generally, he was scared for his life at that exact moment, yet he couldn’t do anything about it. The fear was still settling in.

Before Jonghyun could do anything about it, the mystery figure behind him spoke, with a deep, soothing voice, to explain himself.

“Hey, are you an idiot? It’s freezing, no it’s worse than freezing, and you’re walking out here with almost nothing on! You might as well be naked! Aish, I swear people these days.. You’re lucky I was driving this way and spotted you shivering like a wet dog!”

Just relieved that the male wasn’t there to hurt him, Jonghyun turned around and smiled up at the other man, full of relief and thanks. He didn’t even care that he had just been insulted. All Jonghyun knew was that the tall male had taken his time to get out of his car and wrap a big, warm jacket around him. If anything, Jonghyun thought the insults were cover-ups for the man’s pride. After all, why would he care for an ‘idiot’ stranger’s health?

Without further hesitation, Jonghyun slipped his arms into the jacket and zipped it up within a second. That was all he needed to rejuvenate himself. “Hey, thanks, you don’t know how much this means to me. I’m Jon-” He started, but was cut off by the other male.

“Yeah, you know what, I don’t care right now. It’s freezing out here and I can’t think straight. So get in my car before I change my mind. Now!” The unknown male ordered, quickly and immediately leading the way to his black vehicle. Jonghyun almost had to run just to keep up with the other, but he didn’t mind. All he could think about was the warmth of the inside of a car. He didn’t even think twice about getting into a car with such a rude stranger.

-

I remember that day clearly. As if it was yesterday, really. I had just left Kaein’s house after we had an argument. Okay, so maybe I don’t remember the day as clearly as I thought, because I don’t remember the reason for our argument. Knowing us, though, I’m guessing it was a really stupid reason. Especially because we weren’t even together back then...

Anyways, I guess it’s safe to say I remember that night clearly.

I was driving home, angry and muttering to myself the whole ride home. My fights with Kaein back then were scarce. In fact, they hardly ever occurred. And when they did, like I said, they were for stupid reasons. However, I remember I was overly upset at that argument for some reason. It might have been what pushed me to grow so close to Jonghyun after that night.

Okay, back on track.

I was driving home. The streets were nearly empty in that neighborhood. The lights were dim. It was dark. It was snowing. It was windy. It was cold, even within the warmth of my car. Overall, the night was a pretty miserable one for someone to be walking with the thinnest long sleeve I had ever seen in my life, and black skinny jeans. It was obvious he was cold. I could see him shivering and getting weaker from a mile away. I’m not the type to let someone suffer when I know I could help. And that’s when it all started, really.

I whipped out a jacket from the back of my car, recited my idiot speech, and told him to get into my car. To be honest, I half expected him to not get into my car. I was a stranger, after all, and a rude one at that. But , to my surprise, he followed me like a lost puppy. Maybe it was just because it was drastically cold that day. Maybe I was lucky. Either way, I’m glad he followed me.

“Thanks again, really. I can’t thank you enough. I really appreciate this. Thanks. I’m so glad you happened to be driving around. Tha-” Was all Jonghyun could get out before I finally stopped him.

“Actually, I think you can thank me enough. And you just did. If you say thanks one more time, you are out of this car... You’re welcome,” I answered, focusing my eyes on the dark road ahead of me.

For about a minute, an awkward silence settled between us. It was only a minute, but it felt like hours. Finally, though, he broke the silence, and I could hear the smile in his voice yet again.

“Th-” He started, but caught himself before he finished the whole word. I smirked a bit, obviously knowing what he was just about to say.
Once he gathered his thoughts, he spoke again, still smiling, “Anyways, I never got to introduce myself earlier because someone cut me off. I’m Jonghyun. Kim Jonghyun.”

I just nodded, honestly not knowing he had wanted an introduction in return. It was my turn to look like the idiot. A few seconds of another awkward silence passed before I finally realized it was my turn to introduce myself.

“Oh. Yeah. I’m Choi Minho,” I answered awkwardly, keeping my eyes on the road still. It was a challenge, though, to keep looking forward. The moment I saw him, though weak, I thought he was... Handsome, I guess is the best word. I never thought anything of it, though. I was just captivated by his looks. Nothing more. At that time.

Before another uncomfortable silence could settle, I just remembered I had to drop him off. Obviously. “Oh yeah, where do you want me to drop you off? And it better not be in the middle of no where so you can walk home in the freezing cold again,” I joked, smirking as I finished speaking.

He laughed slightly. His laugh was quite different as well. His looks. His smile. The sound of his voice when he smiled. Just... everything. And that was just the beginning of Jonghyun. Just a small little preview I got of him in a matter of ten minutes.

-

As soon as his slight laughter died down, Jonghyun looked around, hoping to recognize where they were. Once he became familiar with the area, he gave Minho step by step directions to his house. Besides his directions, and Minho nodding, no further interaction occurred between the two during the rest of the car ride. There was little time for interaction, anyways, considering they had reached Jonghyun’s house in no time.

“Well, then, here you are,” Minho came to a slow stop directly in front of the house’s front door.

Jonghyun was about to thank him before he remembered Minho’s annoyance towards his thanks. Instead, he silently started unzipping the warm jacket Minho had draped over him.

“No, no. Keep it, it’s fine. I mean, it seems like you don’t own any jackets. At least if you keep this, I know you’ll be warm if you ever decide to walk in the cold again,” Minho interjected, stopping the shorter male from unzipping the jacket. “And I’m not so sure you can make it inside your house without it,” Minho added, laughing slightly at his own jokes before nodding his head towards Jonghyun’s front door.

Again, Jonghyun laughed his supposedly different laugh and simply nodded in reply. Zipping the jacket back up, he unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car. Before leaving to head inside his home, he bent down a bit, looking inside the car at Minho. “Yah. I just wanted to say, one last time, even though you hate it... Thanks!” And with that, Jonghyun flashed Minho one last teasing smile before quickly shutting the door and running up to his house.

As he ran away, Jonghyun heard a faint laugh coming from inside the black car. Just that faint sound alone made Jonghyun smile to himself as he entered the warmth of his home. It was late, thus he didn’t even bother to yell his presence to the one other person inside the house. Instead, he just headed into his room, still smiling, as he thought about the mysterious man he had only known for a good fifteen minutes.

-

Maybe it was because I was angry at Kaein. Maybe it was because his smile and his laugh captured my attention. Maybe it was just because he was Jonghyun. Maybe it was all the reasons combined. Maybe that was why I couldn’t sleep that night. My mind was confused, and it kept drifting towards a man I had only known for a good fifteen minutes.

But those fifteen minutes were all we needed. It was then, that our weird friendship began. It was then, that I didn’t know what I was getting myself, and eventually Kaein and Jonghyun, into. I can’t say I regret it. Despite the emotional roller coaster we were put into, I can confidently say that the moment I met Jonghyun was the best moment of my life.

I can confidently say that I am glad that my mind kept drifting towards a man I had only known for a good fifteen minutes.

a/n: In case you didn't realize, there's shifting viewpoints. Third person, then Minho's first person. You'll understand why in the end, haha. Juuuuust wait.

Also this is NOT angst because of the recent Jongkyung. (In fact, you’ll realize it’s not even onesided on Minho’s part.. it’s the other way around later on xD) I had this angsty fic in my mind for about a week now before I actually decided to plan the whole thing out and actually write and post it up. So, please, don’t think this is angst because of the new Jongkyung thing. I am not jumping ship because this is fanfic. Fiction. So.. yeah. I could rant on and on about people leaving the fandom completely and all that, but I’m not going to. Bottom line, Jongkyung is actually kinda cute together IMO (fake or not), but that isn’t stopping me from writing Jongho <3 Especially ‘cause Jongho fics are somewhat rare enough (well, from what I’ve seen) and I'm very jongho deprived because of that xP So. Yeah.

pairing: jongho
