oh beloved penny candy! the best way to waste that change you liberated from your parents' couch.
I think my favourite penny-candies were:
- cylindrical stick bubble gum (shaped vaguely like cigarettes - tasted awful, came in pink and purple) - gummi anything - sour versions of gummi anything - swedish berries, but only if fresh!
But I think mostly I saved my change for the Wonka stuff in boxes (Gobstoppers, Runts, Dina-sour eggs, Nerds, Punkys) and those strings of Fizz candies.
I'm with you on everything except the Fizz candies. One summer weekend, I ate an entire string. I was so sick after that I had to get shots to stop the vomiting. It was not a very pleasant memory.

And yeah anything sour AND gummy was/is good.
Or jawbreakers. Hours of fun for me and of "omg she's gonna swallow it and choke and die" stress for my parents.
