I've opted out of American Idol this season because, after last year, I just can't deal with it anymore. Maybe I get angry too easily, but I've reached my tolerance level for seeing talented people get the boot because the viewing public thinks it's more fun to push through the suckage in order to try and bring the show down. The Idol clips I see on the morning news are enough for me. I want to throw up a little bit every time I see or hear Simon Crowell.

Kelly Clarkson is the only product of that show I even remotely enjoy listening to.

The whole thing is a freak show,which I am sure you aware has a long history in fair grounds. In the UK from time immemorial dwarves giants and the deformed have been displayed until relatively recently. The Elephant Man- John Merrick is a good example. In our politically correct times these freak shows have been taken from the streets and replaced by themed reality TV shows. Although physical deformity is not as popular - we prefer our weirdos to have the good manners to look relatively normal- we like our victims to show signs of extreme self abasement. The 'Talent'show used to, at the very least look for talent. The show you refer to- which we also have in abundance here in the UK- looks to promote the vacuous hunger for fame in the contestant and seeks to promote the basest responses in the audience. Why for example do they have to perform covers? We know the reason- the audience are not really interested in the talent and feel reassured to be able to criticise a poor rendition of something they are familiar with. However there ( ... )
