This is inspired loosely by "Buyer Beware" by yachiru (linked at the end of the piece). I'd really suggest reading it -- it's amazing -- but you shouldn't need grounding in that world to enjoy this.

Oh, that was one of her most recent pieces, and it was so striking. I liked how the conversations between the two cops here caught some of that hard-edged choppiness that isn't normally like either of your styles, and took off from the dark implications at the ending of her story.

This was a terrific companion story, one of the best kinds of intersection results.

There was so much I enjoyed about this, from the expansion of yachiru's world into one besieged by war, to the use of detective-style fiction to tell the story of addiction. It was a lot of fun, which is a weird word to describe something so serious.

I certainly remembered the yachiru piece and thought it could be expanded without much effort, so it's great that you did. I think I was more focused on how the sellers might manipulate the market which wouldn't have been the typical direction a story of this sort would go. But I was thinking along the lines of the film "Traffic" where you got to see the drug wars from every angle, from drug king pin to cops on the beat to teenage suburban schoolkids who get hooked. The frightening thing about the concept is just how real it is, and how likely the reactions would be. Because ultimately, that's what addiction is about, at its core.

This piece by yachiru really resonated with me. Your entry does an incredible job of expanding the scope of the situation and illustrating how heartbreakingly impossible addiction can seem. I love the texture of both characters. This is really poignant.
