The other day I was looking through the list of Compleat Anachronist booklets, and lo and behold: they have one for Russian garb. Fucken SWEET. Hopefully it won't take TOO long to arrive... the confirmation e-mail did not include an ETA. Oh well ( Read more... )

The Compleat Anachronist stuff can be fab, depending on the writer, but AFAIK the Russian one is good.

Let me know if we could trade textile goodness. Maybe descend upon the Dacha in Hawk Run for a garb weekend in May or thereabouts. :)

Mmmmm tattoos. I have 3, and the order of the many more to come always halts me. (Of course, I am also halted by WHAT the other designs will be, but I digress.) Locations: Lower back, left outside ankle & left inside wrist ( ... )

How the hell did I manage to not see the one on your wrist, I wonder? I tend to notice visible tattoos, give my mild obsession with them... Oh well.

Cheers for the sound advice! I know I want the dragon and the roses to both be... not small. It hadn't occurred to me to place the dragon on my back... that's a really good idea. Aaand I JUST got the idea that a rose on each hip might work well. Hrrrrm... ::plots::

This might be nonsense, since I got it from an episode of the X-Files or something-- I don't think that you can be buried in a Hebrew cemetary with tattoos.

It makes sense, though. And nobody in my family has any tattoos that I know of. Or any practicing Jews I know at all, for that matter. Don't take my word for it, I haven't even been inside a temple for 8 years. But you should ask someone more knowledgeable.

As far as I know, the no tattoos rule is pretty lax within more "liberal" Jewish communities. Then again, I plan on being cremated (yet another no-no) so I guess the burial rules are kind of moot.

So I've got 5 tattoos as of right now and many more planned. I really want a large piece on my back and possibly to cover an arm, but we'll see how it goes. The very first tattoo I got was a small kanji on my left shoulder - sort of to get the feel for it. It was a spur of the moment thing, since I was just accompanying a friend to get hers done. Anywho, from then on I was addicted. I think getting to know one tattoo artist is a great idea. All of mine were done by different people, but I really want to find one good one and just stick with him/her. I think developing a relationship will help with various decisions, like when, how, where, that sort of thing. So good luck! I heart tattoos!
