I was going to friends-lock this, then thought 'why bother?'

THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO (okay, actually it was about a year and a half ago) when I first got my mitts on a copy of Smoke and Mirrors, I read in Gaiman's introduction to the story called "Tastings" that this little story had taken him four years to write. Why? Because this little story is ( Read more... )

Off topic - but I liked how he gave a little "bonus" to the readers that bothered to read the introduction. It was one of my favorites from the book, too.

By the way, weirder than having those thoughts, is when you catch your self having those thoughts and then wonder how long you've been not paying attention for. Of course, I've only heard about this happening ;o)

YOUR LANGUAGE IS SILLY

on a non-asshat note, when people are reading about sex (or implied sex or whatever the case may be) their thoughts aren't on the author. they're thinking ":3 oh man, i'm reading about sex!"

i have similiar fears and inabitions about my art, and i know comforting and consoling is somewhat moot. eventually you'll find the courage to go out on a limb and share something small, and it'll be fine. and you'll get more and more bold until the fear's completely gone.

When I need to write about sex, I go & cruise the sex stories newsgroups on Usenet. Sometimes you find really well-written ones, but mostly you find horrible shit that really helps you NOT make mistakes.

Depending on what you're trying to achieve, you may want to read some stories with sex (or just implied sex) in them. I might think I was getting a glimpse into the flirtation style of the North American Julia or of some people she's seen. Here's a thought though, if people aren't getting a glimpse into your sex life, why does it bother you that they might think they are?
