Guardians of the Flame! I remember that series. The first book was a pretty standard "regular people get trapped in a fantasy world" with a couple of good moments - after that the series got really interesting.

I've got my gaming time tied up or I'd be all over this, but if you decide you want to go for something more than IRC, we've been using maptools & teamspeak for a pretty decent experience and I could help out on that front. It does mean more prepwork for the GM, though.
