Over all it's been a good weekend. The dance was wonderful, and weetiny adults were amusing and entertaining. Even if some of them did leave weird phone messages.

The overall good mood allowed her to forget about any weirdness, well other then being grateful that it didn't seem to have a lasting effect. It also let an unexpected conversationRead more... )

Jack - bruise-jawed, stiff-shouldered, doped up and feeling more than a bit sorry for himself - leaned in the doorway to Isabel's room, waiting for her to notice him.

Well that answered that question. "In that case, I'll take the kitty," he said with a lopsided smile.

That was Isabel boggling. "You are such a dork. I'm totally blaming the pills." She shook her head and stretched out next to him. "I was teasing you."

"Oh. Right. I knew that." He totally hadn't, but he happily folded her against his side. "The pills make me very fuzzy, and it's not nice to pick on the dopey guy, especially when he's having a bad day."

"No you didn't. But I'm still blaming the pills." Isabel tilted her head and studied the bruise. "So should I go kick him in the shins for you? And why did this happen? What was his problem?"

"Yes, that'd be lovely, thanks." Jack smiled down at her and tapped her nose. "He doesn't like me, he doesn't think I'm good enough for Sam, Aly called me daddy and she's Alanna's daughter, and did I mention he just plain doesn't like me? I was having a really good morning before he wandered into it."

"Next time I see him? I'll do just that," Isabel promised. "Because seriously, hitting an injured guy because of a combination of jealousy and testosterone poisoning is just not cool." She grinned, "Do I want to know what your morning involved? Or does that cover TMI territory?"

"I woke up in a good mood, went for a walk, ran into Kawalsky. The only possible TMI is how it feels to have Sam pour whiskey on your shoulder then stitch it up," he grimaced at the memory. "It hurts, by the way."

"How about I kiss it and make it feel better?" she asked. Touching two fingers to her lips, she gently brushed them over his shoulder. "There? Does that help?"

"It does, actually," he said softly, and wrapped his fingers around hers, pressing a kiss of his own to the tips. "Thanks, Izzy."

"Anytime," Isabel said quietly, squeezing his hand. "Anytime." She shifted, getting more comfortable. "You're welcome to hang out for a while."

"You don't mind if I just sit here like a big lump, taking up valuable real estate?" he asked, settling himself more comfortably with the obvious intention of going nowhere, at least for awhile.

"Not at all. Besides, you're a comfortable lump," she grinned, resting her head against his uninjured shoulder. "Stay as long as you'd like."

"I'm just so much furniture to you, aren't I?" Jack grumbled, but he didn't sound unhappy about it. He was quiet for awhile, but there was something he needed to say. "Isabel, about the dance."

"Does a pillow count as furniture?" Isabel mused. Eyes closed, she squeezed his hand. "What about it?"

"Furnishings, I think," he replied absently, looking at their joined hands, and decided it could remain unsaid. "Nothing, just, I had fun."
