Room 406, late Saturday morning

Dec 02, 2006 12:39

Isabel still can't believe that she slept through the Teal Deer performance last night. But she'd stretched out on her bed to rest for a minute and the next thing she knew it was 2:00 in the morning.

For the moment she was straightening up her room in preparation for the trip to Stuff for Sale for a tree.

The door is open.

Door is passing by, heading back towards her room after doing another unproductive circuit of the dorms, when she notices Isabel's open door. She knocks on the frame and pokes her head in. "Isabel?"

"Hi Door. What's up?" Isabel asked.

Noting Parker within as well, Door waves. "Have either of you seen Evie Carnahan? Carmela and I were meant to meet her in town last night, but she didn't show up, and she's not answering her phone or in her room, either. In fact I've not seen her anywhere in the building."

Isabel thought about it for a moment. "Radio said Evie met a girl last night as well. I wonder if she's gone off to the same place Jack has. Parker says Jack's missing as well," she explained.

"I missed the radio broadcast," Door answers, frowning thoughtfully. "A girl who's not a student, you mean?" Meeting strange girls at night back home often means the Velvets are out walking, but they don't usually go after women.

"They didn't mention any names," Isabel said, frowning. "And usually they're all about linking the names and trying to imply some sort of innuendo even when there's nothing happening."

"I've noticed," Door answers wryly. And not without irony, because she's not completely unaware that she could be accused of doing the same thing sometimes.

"Yes, radio, it's like the tabloid pages, only with sound," she said, rolling her eyes. "I'm thinking we might want to head into town. Maybe someone's seen them around there. For all we know they're having coffee and muffins at the Perk as we speak."

Door nods, though the idea that Evie is all right and just letting people worry about her doesn't fit, much as she'd prefer that to people being in trouble. "Let's."

Isabel grabbed her coat. "There's no time like the present." She waited for Parker and Door to leave the room then locked the door behind them. "I'm sure we'll find them somewhere."

"Let's hope so." Because the other possibilities weren't at all attractive.
