Anyone coming down to the beach to enjoy the holiday would find that it's been prepared for the perfect holiday celebration. There's chairs and umbrellas, sand and water toys, food, music, and volleyball nets. Grabbing two boogie boards, Isabel led Cedric into the water.

"Is there a certain way to begin?" Cedric asks, examining the board. "A button? Some propellor?"

"Nope, it's strictly human and wave powered. Watch." She stood with her back to the waves, boogie board held up in front of her. When a good wave came, Isabel jumped forward onto the board and paddled along until the pull of the wave took her and brought her to shore. She jumped to her feet and waded back out. "What do you think?"

"I think I should be able to do that," he says and mimics what Isabel's just done. He does all right until the wave catches him off guard and flips him off the board. Oops.

The water isn't that deep so Cedric should be able to find his feet quickly. Still Isabel stepped forward to look for him.

He surfaces quickly and is laughing when he wipes the water from his eyes.

"My talent at this sort of thing is quite monumental, isn't it?"

"It takes a little practice," Isabel admitted. "The trick is to keep yourself balanced in the middle of the board. Want to try again?"

"Of course," he says and tries again. This time, he manages to stay afloat but the wave fizzles out and leaves him just lounging on the board. "Perhaps the water doesn't like me?"

"Sentient water? Around here it is a possibility," Isabel laughed. "Try again. I'm not giving up until you get a good ride."

"All right," Cedric says and waits for a wave. Picking one, he catches it and does manage to ride for a while before the wave dies and he flips himself over. He comes up smiling. "That wasn't too bad. Maybe the water doesn't mind too much after all!"

"I can't see why it would," she said. "We're here to give it a purpose. It needs to keep us cool and help us have fun. There's no reason for it to get cranky." Isabel waited till Cedric returned, then put her board down in the water. "Race you in on the next wave?"

"A race?" Cedric looks at the water and almost asks it to be nice to him. He just manages to stop that. "Very well. I accept."

"Great! Get ready," Isabel said as she watched behind her for an acceptable wave. "Here it comes."

Cedric watches for a wave that doesn't look like it will throw him off. He grips the board tightly.

Isabel pushed off with her feet and kicked until she felt the wave take her. "Come on!"

And he does, managing to catch a half decent wave. His board threatens to squirt out from beneath but he holds on and finds himself laughing the whole ride.
