Basically what happened was that after Guy and the others kicked his butt, Kurtis realized what an idiot he was being and ended up sacrificing himself to stop the canon his boss was going use to destroy the EDF base and Tokyo with. Which you'd probably know if you read the mission debriefing anyway.
