I've never really read him. All I know is that he's considered brilliant and he committed suicide a few years ago.

I tried about four different things (in about four different "styles", I suppose) and got Cory Doctorow, Margaret Mitchell, Anne Rice (omg), and Vladimir Nabokov. XD
