Sometimes buckram comes in black, they used to stock it at Lacis (haven't looked in a long time si not sure if they do or not anymore) the french fleece also comes in black so that would hide the white show thru. Love what you did to the pattern to get the top crown flare. That topper rocks!

Unfortunately the Buckram+Fleece was not my choice since it was a school project. Everyone was supposed to use the supplies given to us except the fashion fabric.
I didn't know the french fleece came in black, I LOOOVE that stuff :) I'm going to have to get some for my next hat.

Thanks! The two part crown was something I learned from my friend Kim (Designer of TopsyTurvy) She makes some really amazing mini-topers and I used them as inspiration :)

Thanks :) The laborious part was definitely clipping out the sequins. The shiny makes me so happy!

Thank you :) I was glad my teacher let me make a flare topper, they are so much more fun than straight ones!

This sounds kind of stupid but how did you cover your top hat? Because usually you see them without any seam along the crown but I'm not quite sure how that's possible.

There is a seam CB, I just didn't post a picture of it (Oops) There is also a seam along the top edge (tip+ sideband). Some top hats are molded though (Not sewn at all) which involved steam pressing them over a mold. The result is a hat with no seams, or only at the brim/body juncture.

Is that what you meant?
Or did you mean how their is a seam in the buckram, but not in the fabric? The fabric is stretchy so it conforms to the shape easy, same with a non-stretch cut on the bias. A little hand finesse and it works out.

sorry if that's info overload. We just blocked felt hats yesterday in class and I have it on the brain.
