Thanks! I was really surprised by the lack of choices. In addition to FLAX I also searched Ebay, Etsy and did some Google searches. You would think with the number of artists and design professionals who often have multiple portfolios, their would be more variety available!
Thank you :) All of them were very professional looking in that kinda modern art way, minimalist portfolios. It just didn't really do it for collections, although I did think the Dark wood one was pretty.
One girl in my class did buy the dark wood one. When I asked why she was holding it wrapped in plastic, she said the wood absorbed (and showed) any oil that touched it, including from hands. That strikes me as a serious design flaw for something that is meant to be picked up, touched, shuffled though etc. and is sold for $130 dollars!
Well done! Those both look really nice and how great to be original! Just a tip for future reference, you can use white glue, called PVA, aka Elmer's glue, for everything you needed to glue, it's archival, and it's what we bookbinders use! :) But really good idea to use other books with covers you liked! Saves a lot of time.
I did think about using PVA because I had some, but honestly I have always been really really bad at waiting for things to dry...my painting class in high school was really painful.
I also didn't have any clamps, so I had to manually hold the buckram in place and hold the sheets up so they didn't fold over while it set. I choose fabri-tac because it gets tacky really really quickly and I could put the book down. Do they make quicker-drying PVA glue? Fabri-tac doesn't strike me as being Archival :(
I was really happy to find the NG book, the gold picture on the front is so pretty, and the moon matched one of the motifs in my formal wear collection! I hope my librarian friends don't cry when they see this *Evil laughter*
