I'm going to admit that I only barely read through my friends list as modehistorique (it's not my primary LJ), so I just now connected the dots between your journal handle and the green dress and you! It was really awesome to meet you face to face and now I have a fighting chance of remembering you from here on out. (it takes me a few times before I make the name/face/costume connection permanent)
Anyway, I love your green dress and it was nice to meet you! :)
To be fare I don't make it out to many events, so I am not really surprised we never met before now. I used quite a few of the tutorials on your website as reference while working 18th century projects, Thank you for posting them!
Did I hear correctly that you and Count Fersen will be co-hosting the 18th Century event? I really hope if I'v moved by then I can make it back for the weekend!
I really loved your dress too! I'v been lusting after Venetians for a while now, unfortunately I think the Lampas I have is too modern http://izodiea.livejournal.com/16839.html#cutid1 :( I think eventually I will just crack and buy some of the brocade from Renaissance!
How the hell do you get your front closure to stay fucking closed?!? I have this awful gap which drives me crazy (go back to my July entries to see pictures of my anglaise).
When I first made it I had a pretty bad gap as well. I fixed it two ways. 1. First I added false piping down both sides of the front. Essentially casing without the cord, it gives me about 1/8-1/4 coverage over the hooks and eyes. I imagine aesthetically this wouldn't work for all gowns. 2. I made myself a Ghetto placket, quite literally a scrap of silk pinned to my corset, it kills the last bit of show-through. You could probably skip #1 if you wanted.
I guess it's less getting it to stay closed as hiding the fact it's slightly open :) I'v never tried pinning it closed.
