Welcome to the new year!

My friend [info]mistraltoes liked goals much more than resolutions. In 2010, she wrote, "I thoroughly dislike resolutions, which always seem to be about forcing oneself to engage in or refrain from engaging in particular behaviors to an unnatural degree, which seems like setting oneself up to fail. On the other hand, I love goals, where it's much easier to think in terms of success being either whole or partial. Thus I always go with goals, rather than resolutions."

Indeed she did. And she tried out different "systems" for her goal-setting, too.

Oh how I miss her. I just realized that we never stop missing them until we forget them. Which is kind of awful. As Joy Lewis said, the happiness now is the pain later. And yet I would not wish that she had never been in my life. (wipes away tears)

Sharing one's spiritual journey is important, but I feel I've had little chance to do so in the past few years, at least not in an atmosphere where I could be honest and taken seriously, rather than preached at or scorned.{{hugs ( ... )

You and she were much closer than she and I were; I know I will never miss her as much as you do. But I do miss her, often when I least expect to, and she has been in my heart as much now as she ever was when we could email and beta each other's work and talk on LJ. I wish I could have met her; she's at the top of my list for people I can't wait to see in heaven.

*hugs*

I like goals. Writing this post, for example, made me realize just how much in my life has opened out and blossomed this past year, and how much more I still want to pursue. I don't know if it would do the same for you, but... Yeah.

May your 2012 be a happy and healthy one--in all the ways you most need and desire.

Also, not a goal, but I got married. :)

The good things that one didn't plan for are often the best of all. :)

May you have a great 2012 and make progress towards your goals, especially with the novel.

Indeed. :)

And the novel is definitely going to happen--I'm part way into it now, and just can't wait to spend more time finally getting it on paper.

Happy New Year!

Huh. I figured "resolution" was just a fancy word for "goal."

For some people, I think it is. But like my friend Mistral, I tend to see others (and myself) guilting ourselves over unfulfilled resolutions, while a goal can be wholly or partially reached and still be satisfying.
