(More Cally would be great, I like her quite a lot.)
Cally is kind of awesome, although often more in theory than in practice; they seldom truly did her justice on the show, alas. But I always love it when she makes sensible, practical use of her telepathy (which is more than a lot of fictional characters with telepathic/empathic abilities often seem to manage).
It sounds like Cally knew him; but I couldn't figure out if she meant "personally,"
I don't think they ever really said for sure. Throwaway mentions like that make great fodder for fic, though, and IIRC there are writers who've done some really interesting things with that guy.
He may be fearful, but he's not as much of a coward as he likes to say.
He's really, really not. He just has very good survival instincts, and playing the coward is often a good survival strategy. :)
And the prickly, tense one-upmanship contest going on between Vila with the collars and Avon with the door lock, *snerk*. I think that's one of my favorite Avon & Vila scenes, although there is

Ooo, cool. I shall look forward to those possibilities. (It occurs to me, after this episode, that there could be a lot of fic about Blake doing missions like this one, featuring anyone on the crew the author chose, and involving wacky hijinks. I mean, I'm sure that's basically the show--I guess I'm saying that "case-stories" will be something I look for in B7 fic. Especially with Cally.)
I'm glad you said that Vila is "really, really not" as much of a coward as he projects; I was going to be more vehement than I was, but I thought to myself, "I haven't seen enough of the show to be sure!"
This Avon-Vila stuff, this is my first hint at something people have been telling me becomes rather a show staple. I like it. :)

People have been writing B7 fic for so long and in such quantity that it should be possible to find just about any kind of fic you like, if you look for it. (It also means there's a lot of bad fic, of course, but that's always a given. :))
I'm sure I know the actor playing Sarkoff from somewhere. I'm not surprised; he's one of those classic Brit actors who have been in quite a few things. Does his IMDB entry jog your memory?
Bounty was where the Avon-Vila thing, one of the joys of the series, really got going, I love:
VILA: I'm entitled to my opinion. AVON: It is your assumption that we are entitled to it as well that is irritating.
I'm very fond of the episode, the snarking is hitting its stride beautifully (along with what you mentioned, ther's Blake's "don't take any stupid risks. We're taking enough of those down here.") Plus you get another glimpse of Blake's ruthlessness and insight into character - he knows just what will hurt Sarkoff and uses it brilliantly (and looking round the folly, BTW, the 'artifacts' that the BBC tell us will survive till then are rather... oh dear.
Mind you, don't you love Cally's understated, practical gear for sneaking into alien follies???? Especially the high heels... there's a reason why they're my favourite Peacocks in Space, wait till you see S2 :)
Yes, more of Blake being ruthless; and you're right, he's seems to be fairly good at reading people.

Ha, I had that thought, too. It's a rather...sad...little collection, there. (Though I'm impressed that the automobile actually runs. *g*)

YES. I forgot to mention that, the truly impossible coat and all. *facepalm* And usually the "surface-gear" outfits are at least somewhat practical (even when the colors of them are ridiculously conspicuous). My, oh, my.
I shall look forward to more of Avon and Vila sniping at each other.
