Looking for mystery movie recs

Okay. This has nothing to do with my current project (I know CSI's structure, and I'm using it), but after my spec is done, the next project is that fandom-based murder mystery I keep talking about. (It's going to have one of those pretty legal disclaimers, you know: "any resemblance to actual events or persons is entirely coincidental." *g ( Read more... )

Well . . . Agatha Christie movies come to mind immediately. And Cry Wolf (you've seen that recently) is a whodunit, and a pretty decent one.

Sixth Sense I'd say is something of a mystery, though not in the tradition of the old English manor style.

Some Hitchcock mysteries, like Rope, or Rear Window, which is more mystery/thriller.

Geo watched The Dain Curse recently (available through Netflix).

The Maltese Falcon
The Big Sleep
Murder My Sweet
Dial M for Murder
Gaslight
Kiss Me Deadly

Geo and I will ponder . . .

Rear Window gets a second from me, as well as the other Hitchcock with Grace Kelly in it...To Catch a Thief? Is that the one I'm thinking of? *wikis* Yes, that's right. Oooh, and Dial M for Murder also starred Kelly and was directed by Hitchcock. I haven't seen that one! Shall have to rent it. Kelly + Hitchcock = Must See.

I've seen Dial M for Murder and The Maltese Falcon; liked them both a lot. *files the rest for later*

You might also consider Deathtrap, starring Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve. Based on a play, I believe.

Hit up your library for DVDs of A&E or PBS mysteries. Mine has examples of all the major ones: Poirot, Marple, Wolfe, and Holmes (Jeremy Brett of course!).

For parody, check out Murder By Death, written by Neil Simon.

I've seen it--in fact, I was just thinking that I should watch it again, because I think it might really help with the sort of plot I'm doing. I remember thinking it was VERY well done.
