Overall, I had a good Christmas, despite the fact that I stayed in L.A. and didn't get to visit my hometown or see my family over the holiday, and that most of my "chosen family" friends were out of town this year.
Sorry we made you so tired you slept through your alarm. *laughs* We're enough to wear anyone out. It was so much fun having you, though! I hope you enjoy the CD, the composer's one of my favorites to sing and to listen to.
Also, I wikied Nothern Exposure, and I really want to see it now. Maybe I can add that to the Anderson Family Netflix Que.
My exposure to Northern Exposure was erratic, which meant it was a bit confusing. I think it's one that would definitely benefit from seeing it in order. But what I did see of it, I mostly liked. Certainly has lovely quirky memorable characters. I'm rather fond of Chris-in-the-morning.
Northern Exposure (NX) is love. I did not fully appreciate it when it was in first run. I don't remember seeing any of the first season, and I only saw here and there of the second season, so I wasn't really involved with the characters come third season. As kerravonsen says, you really need to see the show from the beginning to get the full backstory of the characters and the premise of the show. It's extremely well written and well played; they just don't make shows like that anymore.
I've got several posts regarding my love of NX, if you're interested in such things.
Christmas breakfast was sausage and gravy on biscuits (not the sweet kind, my non-American friends)
I'd been told that American "biscuits" are the equivalent of scones, but they aren't. One doesn't eat scones with gravy. And the one time I had American biscuits, they seemed also very salty to me.
I really think "Carry On My Wayward Son" (Kansas) is my new favorite song, and "Fight the Good Fight" (Triumph) is right behind it.
Of the songs used as (recap) accompaniment on the show (as opposed to music that is actually "in" the show, like Dean's tape collection and stuff they hear on the radio), these two songs are the essence of SPN. I'm totally with you on the music love.
lovely brown sweater (made in Bali? is that right?),
Erm . . . I think it was made in Indonesia. Though it might have been Bali. It's hard to keep track of where everything in the store is from, 'cause it's from all over. :-)
Huh. "Fight the Good Fight" was used in one of their recaps? Well, that'd make sense; I listened to it once and was like VID NOW PLZ! :-) When did that recap air, which ep?
I need to check the tag on the sweater. Man, it's beautiful; I can't wait to wear it, and I put is away as soon as I opened it so the cats couldn't use it for a bed.
Will have to check the DVD to confirm (though you could check yourself, if you were so inclined, as it's a S1 song). I'm 90% sure that it was the recap music at the beginning of "Devil's Trap."
Good thinking about the sweater. :-) I'm sure kitties would love it. I'm glad you like it. If possible, I'd like to see piccies of how it looks on you. I saw it and said, "That would look great on Sarah."
That sort of makes sense...I know I saw the beginning of "Salvation" (though not the entire episode at the time it aired) because I remember Pastor Jim dying; but I think I missed the opening of "Devil's Trap" (although again, I know I saw some of the episode.)
