Determination and Despair.
Inuyasha tore through the darkness of the cave, Tessaiga blazing in his hand.
“I’m coming for you, Kagome!” he repeated under his breath, to reassure himself more than her. He would not allow Houki to possess Kagome’s body. He would bring her out of that dreadful prison before it was too late.
Somewhere in the silence, he heard a half-strangled sob. The voice sent a shiver through his spine. It was tired, sad, in pain - yet it was unmistakeably…
“Kagome!” his voice rang through the cave.
Silence greeted him in return.
‘Please wait, just a little more.’
“Don’t give up on me!” he shouted again, “I’ll follow you to the death, do you hear me? To death!”
Panic rising, he broke into a run, leaving the cavern behind and entering a long, dark corridor. Immediately, he felt like he was in a different world altogether. The type of darkness lurking here was entirely different from the darkness inside the chamber. It was not the mere absence of light. The darkness here was palpable, had a mind of its own. It was an unpleasant, thick, sluggish darkness, boring into every part of his body. It was malicious and oppressive, suffocating and unpleasant. Before long, he began to feel dizzy. Sweat broke out throughout his body.
Kagome had been in a place like this. For three days.
Even the thought churned his insides.
