Summary: Kagome watches a horror movie.

"Stupid Eri, and her stupid movie," Kagome muttered as she turned off the television and turned on the lights. Her friends had insisted it was the movie to see, but she had been...sick when it had come to theaters. But her friends had persisted, assuring her it would change her views of the world. They had gone so far as to buy her a copy of the DVD and a bag of microwave popcorn.

After much prodding, she had complied, simply to make the other girls leave her alone. They had not told her what the movie was about.

"If only they knew," she huffed, turning on the kitchen light and putting her popcorn bowl in the sink. "If they’d seen what I’d seen, that little soul sucking imp won’t be that scary." She run some water, waiting for it to heat so she could wash the oily residue from the bowl. Outside it had grown dark, and she could only just see the well house past the glare of kitchen window.

"Shippou is scarier than that little thing." She poured some soap into the bowl and began to scrub. Movement caught her eye and she looked up to see her own reflection in the window. She made a face at her reflection. "I shall devour your soul and add your power to my own," she croaked at her image, doing her best impression of the little monster. Kagome shook her head, rinsing the bowl and drying it. "What a stupid line."

"Besides," she continued, leaving the bowl to dry on the rack while she got a drink from the fridge. "It’s not like demons still exist. I should know." She returned to the living room, opening her drink on the way and taking a long gulp. "Except that mask, of course." She set her drink on a coaster so she could kneel down and check under the coffee table and couch for escaped popcorn.

Finding nothing she stood up and took a look around. "Though, I guess that doesn’t count. The mask was made a long time ago, it just happened to still be around today." She picked up the blanket and neatly folded it across the back of the couch. Movement caught her eye again and she frowned at her reflection in the livingroom window.

Moving to the window, she glanced outside again. The city lights glowed over the shire walls, blocking the stars and dulling the moon. Shaking her head, Kagome closed the blinds. "Then there is Inuyasha, but I guess he doesn’t count either. Since he doesn’t really live in this time."

Picking up her drink, she head for the stairs. She paused to flip on the light before climbing up, and again at the top of the stairs to turn on the hall light. "I don’t know why everyone has to be gone tonight. Not that I expect their lives to stop just because I’m here. I should come home more."

She opened the door to her brother’s room and flipped on the light. Messy and full of toys, it was little boy paradise. Kagome smiled in spite of herself. He was really annoying, but she could not help missing him. With a gentle kick, she sent his soccer ball rolling under his bed where it thumped into something noisily.

The fluttering of the curtains made her smile and she moved across the room to the open window. Sota had a good view of the temple gift shop. She closed and locked the window and shut the certain. "If Inuyasha saw that little movie imp, he’d laugh before he tore it to pieces." She paused to look back into her brother’s room again before crossing the hallway to the bathroom.

"It didn’t even look like a demon." She turned on the bathroom light and looked around. "I mean, I’ve seen all sort of demons, but none of them looked like that slimy, warty thing. Even Naraku wouldn’t want anything to do with that nasty creature." She pulled out her toothbrush and wet it before putting some toothpaste on it. "But I guess it could be related to Jaken." She contemplated around her toothbrush.

She spit and rinsed, then brushed her hair. "Bah. If I don’t get some sleep, I’m going to look like a demon...And now I sound like Inuyasha. Definitely time for bed."

Leaving the bathroom, she head for her room. She turn on the light and left the door opened. "Besides, Grandpa may not be a great priest, but this is still a temple." She looked out the window, her eye resting on the giant tree the temple was built around. A small smile played across her lips as she saw the scar in the bark.

"And I’m no slouch myself." She nodded firmly to herself. Locking the window and closing the curtain, she changed into her night shirt and turned out the light. Using the light still spilling from the hallway, Kagome picked her way to the bed and crawled under the covers. Turning her back to the door, she closed her eyes and settled in.

After a moment she rolled over and pulled the blankets up to her chin and firmly closed her eyes. After another moment she rolled on her back at looked at the ceiling. "I have been sleeping on the ground too much. I can’t get comfortable in a bed any more." She rolled over again, laying on her stomach and pulling the pillow over her head.

The door creaked.

Something wrapped around her wrist.

Time stood still as she lifted her head to peek out from under the pillow. The figure was silhouetted against the hall light. Glowing eyes were framed by a halo of gold and red. Lips split to show fangs in a cruel mockery of a smile. Hot breath rolled across her skin. A tongue flicked out across the fangs. Claws pricked her wrist, she could feel her pulse vibrate against rough skin. It pulled her wrist closer and a slimy tongue slid across the veins. The next stroke was accompanied by teeth.

The scream caught in her throat, her heart hammered her ribs. Fangs and claws pressed harder against her skin, the tongue slowing tasting the flesh. Still those glowing eyes never left her. So intense, never blinking. The tongue and teeth sliding along her skin, looking for just the spot to sink in.

"I shall devour your soul and add your power to my own," the demon rasped...in a very familiar voice. Two triangle ears twitched forward and she felt lips spread into a smile around the fangs against her arm.

Fear melted into fury. "SIT!"
