Summary: The real reason Kouga stopped chasing after Kagome.
Inuyasha growled as he approached the cave that served as a den for Kouga and his pack of mangy wolves. He had gone too far this time! Grabbing Kagome and taking off while Inuyasha was busy fighting another youkai. He was going to pay!
He paused at the entrance to the cave as a familiar voice began issuing commands. He nearly sagged in relief as Kagome's voice rang through the air. She was safe. He smirked. From the sound of it she was more than safe, she was showing them who's the boss.
“Look at this place! It's disgusting! When was the last time you cleaned anything in here?! Get rid of those bones! Throw out those furs, they're filthy and disgusting! Those other ones aren't too bad but they need to be washed! Immediately!”
Inuyasha stepped back out of the way as Ginta and Hakkaku raced out of the cave, bundles of fur in their arms and panicked looks on their faces. His smirk grew as he stepped into the cave, watching as Kagome turned her full attention to Kouga.
“And you! How dare you drag me away from a fight to bring me to such a filthy place like this!”
Kouga cringed back from her as her voice impossibly became louder with each word. Who was this banshee? Where had his sweet Kagome gone? It had seemed so right to grab her and bring her here where she would be safe instead of left unprotected in the middle of a fight. He hadn't expected her to protest. He hadn't expected her reaction to his home. What was wrong with the den?
Inuyasha's smirk continued to grow as he watched Kouga cringe away from the small woman. 'That's my girl,' he thought with pride. Strong-willed and stubborn. That wimpy wolf would never be able to handle her. She needed someone strong enough to stand up to her.
And with that thought, Inuyasha straightened from where he had been leaning against the wall and completely entered the cave, drawing the attention of the other two.
Kouga nearly sighed in relief. “Inu-kuro!”
Kagome smiled. “Inuyasha.”
“Keh. Been busy I see,” Inuyasha said as he moved to avoid a pair of rapidly cleaning wolf youkai.
Kagome's face filled with disgust. “This place is a pigsty! Please tell me we can just leave now.”
Kouga seized his chance. Let Inuyasha deal with her. “Yeah, I guess you're here to take Kagome back now that the fight's over, huh? Well, see ya Kagome.” He quickly darted out of the cave.
Inuyasha turned and glared at his receding back. He wasn't going to get off that easily. Something touched his arm and he turned to see Kagome standing there.
“Can we please just leave?” she asked, shuddering as she glanced around the cave again.
Inuyasha pulled her onto his back, vowing that while the wolf got away this time, he would make him pay. Someday, when Kagome wasn't there to stop him.
