The state of me!

I had my first education class today. I can't say that I learned all that much, although there were a couple of useful tips. I will profess to being totally dumb-founded at the level of ignorance over the very basics of nutrition that almost everyone else in the class had. There were 5 actual enrollees and 2 people (both men) brought their spouses ( Read more... )

I think that yes you'll get the anger/depression/denial during Easter Candy season. I know that first year it was not being able to have more than a few Cadbury's Eggs that got my mom. Since you successfully maneuvered during Winter Holiday baking excess with Diabetes, and are losing weight, your anger/depression/denial will actually be less than a lot of people.

I think it was coming to us, your Flist, and hearing our advice that probably helped you. Also? It sounds this class was about as useful to you as my TMJ classes were 12 years ago. Since, by the time the classes started you'd educated yourself.

Actually, I'm not that much of a candy eater (even though I love the Cadbury Eggs with the chocolate inside). My big test will come just slightly after that when the spring strawberry season begins.

I love strawberry shortcake! Strawberries with real sugar, shortcake (spongy or flaky, I love it all), tons of fresh churned vanilla bean ice cream and real whipped cream.

Now, I can make a lower carb and lower fat version of it, just like I made a fairly yummy pumpkin pie for myself when I made a regular one for my brother at Christmas. But it just won't be the same. At least the important part, the fresh, ripe berries, will be the same.

And yeah, I think I'll give it one more class (in 2 weeks). If that one doesn't net me fresh information, I won't be going to the other 2 because my insurance company doesn't pay for them until my deductible is covered. D:

You've done a great job at educating yourself and being informed. I really applaud you for losing so much weight so quickly. It's a lot of work to keep on top of things, but it's worth the payoff, good health and sticking around.

Thanks. I'm a compulsive researcher. Some on diabetes warned me against burn out and learning too much. How can you know too much about something that will profoundly effect you for the rest of your life? Like you said, it's worth the payoff.
