This is actually quite good. I know it will come as a shock to many of you to hear me say that given that I've been relentlessly pounding AXM for the past year or so. But there's a lot to like about this issue, and it gives me hope that Whedon's run will end on as strong a note as it began (but he's disappointed me before on this title, so I'm ( Read more... )

I'd been hanging on to AXM by my fingernails, and frankly I'm this close to dropping it. Whedon leaves too much for the reader to try to figure out for my taste. Too many loose ends to keep track of, too much that the reader has to fill in for things to make sense. It's a month between issues--the story should be drawing me back to read it, and at this point I couldn't care less about the Ord. On the bright side, it's made me supplement my reading with the X-men title, which I must say is drawing me back. Slowly. :)

Yes, Whedon seems to think that ending nearly every issue with a cliffhanger page is the way to do this. Actually having an interesting plot would work better. About halfway through the last arc I started just going "oh whatever" in response to the endless "wow isn't this crazy" attitude of each issue's final pages. It's not a commercial break where people will wait a few minutes to see what the crazy thing meant. It's a two-month gap which requires more sustained interest.

This is what I was trying to get at with my comment about suddently having all of the Breakworld info shoved into this issue. Isn't it a little late? I've already spent 18 issues not giving a shit (when I event thought about it at all), and turning that around during the final arc is going to be challenging.

:-) I like X-Men, ( ... )
