Astonishing X-Men #15: The fanboy factor

At this point, I'm starting to not care what Whedon does over in AXM. But it's interesting to look at what he's doing that's so underwhelming. In this issue, his version of the Hellfire Club, who have secretly been hiding in the mansion and using (forcing?) Emma to act as a double agent make their move. This leads to several characters being ( Read more... )

Yeah, I feel myself not caring about what's going on in Astonishing either. I was very pissed off when he first started the whole "Emma is eeeeeevil" plot, but now that I'm over the shock, I'm just completely underwhemled by everything he is doing. And I would be able to easily ignore his entire run provided that Emma comes out of it alive and still with the X-men.

In retrospect, it's blindingly obvious that Whedon wanted to write a Shadowcat-saves-everyone story from the beginning.Exactly. It's beginning to feel more and more like Joss's fanfic for X-men. I love Kitty and have spent a lot of time trying to explain to people why exactly she isn't a Mary Sue. But Joss's Kitty? Is an utter Sue and I kind of find myself hating her ( ... )

His exact words were that there will be a Wolverine scene in issue #15 "that's going to alter the fabric of the known universe," he said. "Not to oversell it, but I think the world is going to turn the other way, and Margot Kidder is going to come out of a ditch ( ... )

BTW, are you following the new teams on Uncanny and X-Men? Uncanny looks promising despite the Shi'ar space opera elements not being my favorite X-Men sub-genre. I'll see what X-Men looks like tomorrow, but I'm excited just by the cover, which shows Cable and Cannonball on the same team. I really wish the old-school X-Force would show up in the 198 camp and just start incurring some serious property damage. :-)

Also, I think Mike Carey could get a lot of mileage out of having Mystique on the team.
