The first time Missouri sensed a spirit, she was only three, and her grandfather was with her. She looked at the shape of the woman and asked him why Grandma had been away so long. "Yeah. Because sittin' in this room's gonna be so helpful, Missouri."

She sits up a little straighter, listening. She could have sworn she heard something. Or maybe she just sensed something she should be able to hear.

"Dean?"

She's known of people who could project outside their bodies. Her grandfather always told her stories about the ones who'd gone walking so far they couldn't find their ways back.

"Honey, if you're walkin', don't be afraid, but just- don't go too far, okay. Stay in the building, though. You go too far, you might not be able to get back."

Dean does not sound amused.

"Little late for that, you know? Pretty sure Milliways is outside the building."

And he really didn't have plans to leave again, if he could help it.

She sighs. He's there, all right. She can't say how she knows, but he's there.

"I can't hear you, but I know you're there. Oh Dean, I'm sorry you're hurt. I really am. Your doctors are tryin' real hard though. I guess you've been watchin', huh?"

She waits for an answer she won't hear.
