Title: Whiskey Lullaby
Pairing: Larxel
Rating: R for drinking and sucide
Summary: Axel attempts to cope after Larxene kicks him out. AU
Notes: More emo than I usually write, but this song was begging for it
Larxene crossed her arms over her chest as she stared out the window at a very disheveled looking Axel who was trying to unlock the front door with a key that no longer worked. She sighed and turned her back to the desperate look he was giving her through the window; she loved the man but she couldn't take anymore of his lies.
Axel slid to his knees outside the house he and Larxene had shared for the past three years, his fists bloody and bruised from beating on the door for what seemed like hours; she couldn't do this to him, it just wasn't fair. Tears began to stream down his face, his head resting against the door as the realization that it was really over this time hit him like a ton of bricks.
Luxord and Demyx tried to help him ease the pain at first, but the deeper he fell into depression, the more he drank until even his two best friends didn't even come around anymore. Who needed them anyway? Axel had his good friends Jack and Jim to keep him company and those were the only friends he needed now that his Larxene was gone.
It was Demyx who found him that fateful day; his face was buried in his pillow with a simple one line note lying beside his still form. I'll love her till I die.
The funeral was a small one with just a few friends in attendance. No one noticed the grieving blonde standing just on top of the small hill that overlooked the willow tree that would be Axel's final resting place.
Larxene turned and walked away from the scene before her; this was all her fault. If she had just been a little more understanding, a little more patient...maybe, maybe things would be different.
She grieved but was determined not to end up like Axel, she could get through this dammit. After all, she had the comfort of her best friend and Marluxia wouldn't let her get as bad as Axel had been, right? Too bad Marluxia was too occupied with his latest conquest to realize that his depleted whiskey supply was the fault of Larxene and not his infamous parties, or that the flask he has given Larxene as a gag gift so many years before was now being used regularly.
Marluxia was the unfortunate soul who found Larxene's body, her fingers in a vice grip on an old photo of Axel. After much debating and arguing, Larxene was buried beneath the growing willow tree next to Axel; they were truly together again at last.
She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart he spent his whole life tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
Until the night
He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said I'll love her till I die
And when we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby
lalalalalalala
lalalalalalala
lalalalalalala
lalalalalalala
The rumors flew but nobody know how much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain away a little at a time
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind
Until the night
She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away his memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees
We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby
