I'm sitting here at a laundromat filling the time while machines do their work. I figure writing this is my work and it's time to try to put the last few days into perspective

I remember going to the first SPX. It was a really interesting weekend because it was also the LAST Diamond Expo. That was the year before the big crash when pretty much all the other comic distributors went away. Very sad. But SPX was a really neat counter to the giant thing that was the Diamond Expo. Scott was there, and he 'forced' me to show the comic I was doing at the time to Dave Sim, who was very helpful and took quite a lot of time to sit with me and go over my book. We had dinner with Jeff Smith, Charles Vess and Coleen Doran at that show. Sounds like it might have shifted a bit to even more independent creators? Dunno. I'd love to go again at some point.
It is an awesome show. Everyone is still just as nice, but very young. Scott was the only one there this year from the people you had dinner with. I think you'd have a blast if you went again.
So I just came back from CXC. I really wish you and Scott could have been there. A tiny show by comparison, but it had a real mix of VERY independent comic makers and people like Jaime Hernandez, Art Spiegelman, Jeff, Scott Kurtz and Bill Griffith. It was a weird show, fractured in a way, but no one was hounding creators or fanboying them. Intimate and centered on the creators, not even their creations. And the biggest exhibitor there was Fantagraphics.
Yes, I felt the breeze and I send one back your way!
I wish we had been as well! Super odd mix of creators. Very interesting. AND we would've gotten to see you, so that alone would've made it worth it for me. :-)
We might be passing by again, I promise to wave again!
You got to meet Richard!! And go to his house!!! You will have to tell me everything, EVERYTHING!!! when we see each other again. I cried out loud when I saw you got to go to his house. I had to stop reading to calm myself down before I could finish reading your post. That is so awesome. I mean really. Wow. >sniff
It was pretty awesome! If you are who I think you are, then I'll tell you all about it when I see you (which will be relatively soon, btw). If you're someone else, I'll still tell you all about it, I'm just not as sure that I'll be seeing you soonish. :-)
