my childhood is lost in translation

I remember most of the books I read and loved when I was little. One of them was Amy's Eyes, which I can't find and have a worn, dog-eared copy of, and one of them was Charlotte Sometimes, which I may buy in hardback since the paperback is prohibitively expensive ($43), and it's not even a very thick book. Thank goodness I wasn't the only one who hated the Ella Enchanted movie. That was one of my favorite books growing up - it's still a big influence on how I write, too - and there was just nothing left of it by the time it hit the screen. Just special effects and bland characters. I'm still angry about that.

Matilda is still my favorite Dahl adaptation, though. I wonder what happened to the girl who played Matilda? She was very good, almost exactly as I imagined her in the book.

I was so, so disappointed in Ella Enchanted. They had such a wonderful book to work with and they turned out...bland, cardboard crap with Ella singing a song from Queen and the Elves turning out so poorly. And what was with the random villain they slapped in there? Unnecessary! They changed Char's entire backstory. Also, they massacred the godmother and her awesome book. I almost died at the line: "This book...is my boyfriend!"

Mara Wilson! Great child actress. I feel sad that she didn't get parts beyond that. T_T
