i have wonderwall constantly playing through my head

Spent the weekend feeling tired and listless. I don't know, maybe it was just the remnants of post-weekend week and me finally rearranging the sleep schedule back around to normal. My throat is itchy, and I'm feeling light-headed and slightly dizzy despite not having a fever. But enough about my health ( Read more... )

A good 60% of the fic I write is because no one else will write about [underappreciated minor character], and therefore clearly the path before me has been prepared! I don't know if I want to call it vindication fic, exactly, but I'm definitely motivated by the desire to show them as a 3D personality and not a stock character in someone else's story.

Yes! That's another kind of fic I like, to read or to write. It's more of a blank slate, really.

D: I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well. Hopefully it starts improving soon.

Oh, I have a few of those characters, too. Sometimes I'll feel that way towards a character coming from a fandom I haven't even read/watched, just because everything I hear about their canon treatment really disappoints me or hits a little too close to home. (Like, any female character from the manga series Berserk, I just want to yank them out of it because I swear to God, every female character gets sexually assaulted or raped/endures attempted rape, even the main lady despite the fact that she's a warrior.)

It seems to be lingering without worsening or improving. I'm going to take a fuckload of Vitamin C and see if that helps any.

Oh Christ, Berserk. I read a bit of it and palled, despite the lovely artwork. It was just so full of rape. >80

Haruhi tells off the Ouran boys at least once yes. Seriously, the -crap- she puts up from them!!

When I was still in the Naruto fandom Sakura was my favorite character (I loved most all the girls because it was so easy to see how they could be awesome) and all the fanfics I read centered around her being kick-ass and smart and independent and -her- saving Naruto instead of the other way around.

Oh, Rachel. I think Glee sends a mixed message, somewhere between "be true to yourself, don't put up with crap" and "it's high school, just ride it out."

Haruhi puts up with waaaay too much shit from those boys. From petty crap to classist dickery to the plain-out unacceptable, like Kyouya's rape threat. AUGH.

Sakura was my super fave. I wished I could read a manga about Sakura instead of that Naruto idiot and that douchebag Sasuke. It sucks that Kishimoto kept penning her into the damsel in distress role despite giving her awesome strength.

Glee just...has no idea wtf it's talking about. There is so much cognitive dissonance on that show, I swear. We focus on Kurt's bullying and ignore Rachel's, we focus on Sue being a 'bad teacher' and ignore Will planting weed on a kid so he can join his stupid club. It's unbelievable.

I think Suki's terrible crime was getting between Sokka and Toph. Or something. But yes, those two get a lot of hate. It's sad, because I really like all the Avatar ladies. >_< It's good to see people write the ones who are fanon hated or ignored.

Bulletproof trope, maybe?

Anyway, I agree wholeheartedly with this comment. I actually kind of want to see Glee, just because I'm interested in hearing the covers + seeing how they deal with the premise, but all the issues it has makes me hesitate.

Bulletproof trope is the best word I've seen for it, yes. Glee has a humongous amount of issues and had I known about them, I would never have watched the show. As it is, I guess it's good for the crack element, but anything more serious than that is going to be annoying or upsetting. Sometimes they get it, but often they don't.
