You know what's really sad about summers now? I miss the fireflies. When I was a kid living in Nebraska, the night in the summer was so full of fireflies it was like the air was strung with miniature Christmas lights. I used to go outside and fill a jar with them (and some of the leaves they ate) for a nightlight, and let them go the next morning. ( Read more... )

I've... never even seen a firefly. Wow, now it's sounding totally ridiculous to me, but I don't think I've ever even considered that there could be that many anywhere in the US. XD

I'm sure the population density of fireflies is directly related to the climate and population of humans (urbanization) in the area. There may still be that many fireflies in Nebraska, for all I know. I'm just sad that I can't see them here. T_T
