dream by night, wish by day, love begins this way

Baby Gabe is very sick, complete with high fever that hasn't broken so much as fluctuated, watery red eyes, shivering, and vomiting. The doctor says this is because of an ear infection, and he has medicine for that, but I'm still worried. His attitude hasn't changed all that much: still makes happy humming sounds and likes to play, but is generally ( Read more... )

I don't believe I've made it to that part of the manga yet, but I highly doubt the scene was played for laughs. Yoshimori has a bad habit of trying to take on the weight on the world himself (and unlike most shounen heroes, he manages to be endearing about it, instead of irritating) and to try to keep Tokine away from his problems because she's been physically protecting him their entire lives (which resulted in her hands being scarred for life after saving him when they were children). Most likely the scene comes after his leaving her (and everyone else) behind to try to do something overly dangerous on his own.

Yeah, I couldn't make much of a judgement off of one scene, so I can't comment on the scene itself so much as the justification brought forth by the defenders of Tokine's actions.

The scene in context looks like a normal result of high emotions and tension, then, not abuse (as the secret writer made it out to be,) or anime humor. Thanks for the clarification!

I'm trying to think of cases in anime/manga where they have done "woman hits man and it's ok" that have worked for me. I can only think of 3:

1) Yuya to Kyo, Kyoshiro and Benitora in Samurai Deeper Kyo where it's almost always a direct result of grabbing a personal part or "rearranging" her clothes. The notable exception being that she headbutts Kyo and tells him to screw it when he tells her he might spare her life if she begs him to.

2) Sarasa to Shuri in Basara, when he's having trouble with "no."

3) Rinslet to Jenos in Black Cat when she learns he just risked her life and ruined her assignment so he could meet her with style.

I find it really hard to imagine the Kekkaishi scene being a comedic one, unless it's followed up by the other characters commenting that she must like him and laughing, but even then, I doubt the hit itself is meant to be comedic, but to show how much his hero complex upsets Tokine, especially when it means his risking his life.

One and two I think of as under 'self defense' smacking, where it's a reaction to someone putting the female in an inappropriate or dangerous position, and then it's her reasserting her rights. I guess three can go under that, too, since I'm assuming her life was in danger and that's a definite Do Not Do. Guy deserves a smack for that one.

Shonen heroes rarely get called on this, and when they do, it's usually by someone crying their eyes out and presenting themselves as, well, ( ... )

Oh no, poor Bebeh!! I hope he feels better soon. D:

I only find those perverted jokes funny if the joke is on the peeper/pervert. Like if the girl they're getting and upskirt shot turns out to have a tranny bulge. That never gets old for me. TAKE THAT.

Bebeh seems to be feeling a bit better this morning, happily. XD

(Oh, god, I thought of Kaatje.)

*belatedly* Although, I DID like the switcharound of that concept in Sailor Moon, where they initially thought Haruka was male and were surprised that she was female. I could do with more moments like those. XD
