Unlike the vast majority of the general populous, Zack was neither bleary-eyed nor thinking with a one-track, business-oriented set in his mind. He'd had more than enough sleep over the past couple of days to have gained a significant boost in energy, by now, and though he wasn't quite back to his usual, up-slightly-late-for-the-crack-of-dawn and still grumbling self, it was a step forward. He had sensed the moment he was no longer alone, but the General’s attention never once wavered from the small LCD screen until the message noted that it had been sent. "A while" was an understatement; it had been years, and Zack had known he was dead so many times. Why was he back? What little sense his and Aerith's resurrection had made before slipped out of his grasp, and Zack found that once more he was irrationally angry at the Planet. At the Lifestream, even. What kind of benevolent mass consciousness could have ever though it a good idea to spit his ex-General back out?

For that matter, why had it bothered with him, either? Didn't the world have enough saviors? It only seemed to be creating problems for itself, now, and Zack wasn't even sure he really thought it was all worth the price, anymore.

"Not long enough," he shot back, nothing but hostility in eyes that were still the same unnatural blue that the mako treatments had made them all of those years ago. There was no waver in his voice, though there was in his stance. "What the hell are you doing here?"

“Such harsh words you speak.” Sephiroth uttered, but there was an underlying tone of satisfaction in his voice. They were both more than well aware of the fact that Zack couldn’t stand up to him, and it left the General with the decision of whether to impart this knowledge again. He had been rather bored since his rebirth, and despite the entertainment he partook in at Junon, he really hadn’t properly stretched his muscles ( ... )
