Hermione as Dark Lady? (Poll)

Jul 21, 2016 15:11

Shog just announced that the next Dark Lord in the Harry Potter universe (you know, the actual universe that writes itself having been brought into existence by Rowling and stretched and twisted and changed by its fanfiction creators), will be a Dark Lady. He thinks that she will be Hermione, and these are his reasons:

  1. She is ambitious and goal- ( Read more... )

I can't see Hermione as a Dark Administrator - that is essentially what Dolores Umbrage was, and I think Hermione would shy away from it because of that.

Being involved in various independent commitees, projects and causes, using her War Hero status to gain influence and put on pressure without the trial of working her way through the Ministry or getting elected is more the way I see her going, like Lucius Malfoy and Dumbledore in part. Then she could advance, either through the use of a puppet front man or stepping in as some kind of saviour (through a set up crisis?) to become a kind of benevolent tyrant. It would be her quashing of various liberties For the Greater Good that could gain her the Dark Lady moniker.

Either that, or she gets so incenced at some kind of casual rejection or injustice she goes out cold-bloodedly to set the world to rights, her way!

I wonder what kind of a person Dolores was before she started wearing a Horcrux around her neck? If the Dursleys get a Horcrux pass (although I don't entirely accept that theory), why shouldn't Dolores? That said, even without having a piece of Voldemort's soul influencing her, I think that, under certain circumstances, Hermione could fall prey to the strength of her own crusading zeal and achieve Dark Administratorhood without ever realizing it. Unchecked good intentions might lead a lot of people down the same path.

Your ideas sound completely plausible to me, though I'd like to think that an adult Hermione would be able to check herself were she faced with your second instance (mostly because I think that she's more of a planner at heart :P). Your first instance reads like a story outline. :D

P.S. Of course, Hermione can be pretty ruthless when thinking on her feet, can't she be? I'm thinking specifically about her hexing Harry so that the Snatchers don't recognize him, and how she leads Dolores to the centaurs . . . .

Sorry, I've been away from the internet a bit too much to comment the last couple of days.

It is the second scenario that matches up with many of Shog's points - Hermione champions a cause, throws her all into it, then get snubbed for some spurious (Pureblood? Patriachal is more likely) reason. She storms off, activates some kind immediate vengence (or vice versa) then gets out her planners, highlighters and post it notes and sets about a cold and complete take down/take over of the person/people/organisation involved.

Actually that would also fit in with the first idea, if I were to write such a thing, which I'm not (please, I'm busy hacking at a smut_fest piece here, to see where I need to join things together - eek!)

Yes, that is one of the best I've read - sort of perverse, controlling, total tyrant, but on the whole better than the twisted tyrant and his sycophants she ousted

Most definitely.

I'll pass on this link to Shog (so that he'll stop hinting for me to write Dark!Hermione). :P

Can I just say that I have the utmost love for your Shog right now? That was fucking great and I loved his reasons.

I want a third option. I can see what Shog means, but I can't bring myself to fully agree. I think it could happen IF the circumstances were right, but I'm not certain she's psychopathic enough in the long run to not realise what she was doing. I don't think she hates strongly enough, really.

It does have the potential to be a good story, though.

Hermione doesn't really hate, does she? She has moments of intense anger and acts accordingly, but she doesn't tend to dwell on slights; she gets on with things. I like that about her, that she doesn't tend toward self-pity. She's too strong-minded to be psychopathic; her youthful acts of anger read more like passion than that to me.

I will share your comment with Shog; perhaps it will help me persuade him to back off on his request that I write him Dark!Hermione fic. :P

I can't remember any titles at the moment (dammit), but I have read some very funny post-war fics where Severus is dealing with Hermione's ruthlessness where he didn't expect it, or making her promise not to go off Dark Lording even if she's angry with the Ministry (or whoever).

Really, I could see the most plausible Dark Lady Hermione as caught up in her own ideas, like SPEW on a whole new level. She thinks she's doing the right thing, bending the rules for all the right reasons. Villains don't see themselves as the villain, after all.

Oh, that scenario does sound fun! Poor Severus, wondering how he got into such a mess, again. ;)

I completely agree.
