Subtextual Healing's current state: a tale of incompetence (mine)

Aug 05, 2007 18:11

In attempting to migrate Subtextual Healing's posts to my back-up journals, I inadvertently caused duplicate entries to appear on them-and on this journal. I have no idea how I did that, and, at this point, it doesn't matter because, in attempting to remove the duplicate posts here and on my back-up journals, I actually deleted some posts. *headdesk* (The reason you can't see the majority of my posts on any of my journals is that I altered the posts' security settings to "Private" before the migration so that I could alter their internal links and formatting options before making them "Public" on the back-up journals. When I tried earlier today to change the posts' security settings on this journal, I discovered the deletions.)

The long and the short of it is that I've screwed up all my journals, and I'm now going to have to reconstruct a lot of fic posts where there have been deletions. Making this situation worse is that the ljArchive file of my intact version of Subtextual Healing has been corrupted, which means that some of the entries I've deleted are well and truly gone, including their comments, and I won't be able to backdate them appropriately.

I have all my stories saved off-line, so I'll be able to "rescue" the fics, but it's going to take me some time to do that. Clearly, I'm not competent to use perfectly good migration and back-up tools (especially when sleep-deprived, which only increased my incompetence). In any case, I'll be making all the repairs (and migrating the corrected posts from here) "by hand" to avoid making similar mistakes in future.

I'm disgusted with myself, and I apologize to those of you who were actively reading stories which you can no longer access. I'll work as quickly as possibly to bring the stories back up. Please be patient with me while I'm in the process of restoring my lj.

And yes, I do know that I should archive all of my fics to The Archive and Walking the Plank. I'm going to be doing that, as well.

You are now free to point and laugh. *sobs*

ETA: to whom it may concern: None of this means I won't be available to RP. ;)

ETA II: Most of my internal links appear to be screwed up, too. *tears hair*

ETA III: Some posts have stripped headers and are now attached to comments that don't belong to them. Fuck me if I know what I'm going to do, now. *sobs*

ETA IV: I've lost two fics: A Charlie(?)/Hermione in which there is jealousy over a mistaken impression and make-up sex (which I believe was based on a prompt by inell), and a fic involving various permutations of Lucius, Narcissa, and Severus, "featuring" AtM, among other things. I didn't save those stories to my drive. :(
