The veneer of Western Civilization is far more vulnerable than we can possibly imagine.

When you look at the waves of uncivil discussion and over-the-top hyperbole and discourse (online and elsewhere), one has to wonder how is it that we all manage to keep it all together?

The answer is actually very simple: continuity of the actively enforced rule ( Read more... )

Thank You my friend. As someone on the other side politically I am truly distressed by what I see. There is little im not willing to talk about but I can only do it with someone who dosent see me as evil because I dont agree with them.

I cant think of any stranger I want dead because of their politics.

Who do you see leaving the court next of their own free will during a Democratic administration? The court is fairly pro-business right now, and the chief justice is fairly young.

You make a good point. But there was a rumor about a year ago of at least 2-3 SCOTUS justices wanting to retire, but waiting until the next Republican administration in which to do so. Draw your conclusions from there. ;-)

For me, the trick is to engage the other side, if not the scant undecided, and convince them of the rightness of our argument, and not just snark them on the wrongness of theirs.

This really matters. This is what is going to make the difference between turning the car around while there is still some road left in which to do so, or watching it drive off into the abyss (the Left will do it at 88 mph, while the Ruling Class Right will do at 55 mph).

And you think that 'snark' above is going to help you convince others of the erstwhile 'rightness' of your argument? ^_~` Not that there's any level of reason that you can apply that will convince me of the 'rightness' of something that has been proven to not work. :)
