Overall a good review! I feel I would give the book 4 stars out of 5 just because of the back story and history we saw in the book. Also because I'm a sucker for any book where we get a decent amount of Nix(My favorite character!).

I do agree Deep Kiss of Winter was the worst in the series, but I almost feel that Demon from the Dark was worse. I really hated that book.

I do love getting a bit of history in things do/seeing new areas of the world but then it leaves so many questions. Why did she have so many throw away species in this book? The lizard people? Was she watching Rainbow Brite? Or questions not answered like, why do those only in Lothaire's father's line see the memories of those they drain?

I think I am going to review all the books after rereading them but Demon from The Dark bothered me for different reasons then Deep Kiss of Winter. The latter it just left a sporadic feeling and leaving the reader with zero connection to the characters and the former having a lack of a good female lead and a lack of explanation of the male leads train of thoughts/emotional change.

I think she feels the need to create new "bad" species to throw in the books. I mean it does make sense since the characters are going to need new baddies to go against. Plus the Lore is supposed to huge so it goes with that.

I actually felt both of those things Demon from the Dark, I really didn't care about the characters and was more interested in the side characters. I think in Deep Kiss of Winter she struggled to find a loop hole into her built in canon of Ice Fey and a way to neatly end the stories of the Wroth brothers.

In Deep Kiss of Winter though there was too much lead up to the book and I think that contributed to the problems of the book.

So many things contributed to DKoW which may effect other books if they aren't well written and given the proper promotion. I mean don't get me wrong no other book will get Lothaire's style of promotion except for Nix's, one would hope. The thing is it's been what? Five books we've been waiting for Lanthe/Thronos. She better not disappoint with that book. She should of stuck with the ever other theme instead of doing the Rydstrom brothers back to back.

I hope we at least get a glimpse of Ulliam MacRieve in the next book which hopefully is L/T so we will have something to look forward to..but who knows with her.

Excellent review! That cover still kills me, I just can't with it. Lothaire is so much one of Cole's babies that he clearly got special treatment. You know, someone asked her if she could pick a character to be stuck on a deserted island with and she picked Lothaire. I'm sorry, I enjoy him as an antagonist and all, but I'm not sitting on an island alone with the guy. I have characters of my own I wouldn't want to be stuck on an island with ( ... )
