More fun with original characters, this time, since it's the loudest thing in my head for this prompt. (Also, it's a fair ways down the timeline, wherein Tony Stark joined a presidential ticket as the VP and had to step in when the old guy at the top died. Fun times!)
Prompt for October 27:
"He was born that way, I guess."
Ordinarily, Kevin's not big on the parties. They tend to fill up with boring people who just want to be important at everyone else in attendance, and he has to stand there and make sure no one goes crazy.
But this is one of Tony Stark's parties, so a little craziness and a lot of informality is built into the plan. Mr. Stark has no problem with being important at people, but it's not the whole of the party.
Anyway, this one's a costume party. Kevin's stuck in the Secret Service suit, being on duty and all, but he can at least jazz it up a little bit and pretend he's saving the Earth from the scum of the universe.
Not long into it, a flash of red hair from across the room - too short and too... well, high-definition to be Pepper. She's in another corner of the room anyway, probably having a moment with Jarvis. When the other redhead passes by, Kevin can't help but comment on his costume.
"Please tell me all the ants are still in Hex."
The guy stops, turns, and treats Kevin to a million-watt smile. "Far as I know, they are. Didn't go out of my way to get any, at least. Anyway, hi."
"Hi. I'm Kevin, and you are clearly Eddie."
The guy cracks up, which gives Kevin pause. He knows who he's actually talking to - Pepper's got a family photo on her desk, and anyway, Tony Potts has his father's eyes - but he hadn't realised that was so funny.
"You," Tony finally says, "are more right than you know."
Kevin shrugs. "I was just trying to stick to the theme. I mean, Mr. Stark is obviously Zaphod, even if Pepper is decidedly not Trillian. No matter what Pooh thinks."
"Pooh?"
"The security guard of very little brain. None of us are quite sure how he got so much clout."
Tony grins. "Oh, right, that joker. From the sound of things, he hasn't learned anything since the last time Dad--" He stops abruptly, looking particularly sheepish.
"I don't think anyone else is paying attention to you. Besides, there's a reason I'm the head of your mother's security detail."
"Oh - oh, you're that Kevin! It's good to finally meet you. I've heard a lot."
"Only good things, I hope." Out of the corner of his eye, Kevin notices Pepper and Jarvis making their exit. He's surprised it's taken them this long to make their own time for the night; in any case, they'll be more than capable of taking care of themselves, so he's not worried about it.
They don't stop talking until the party winds down and Kevin realises he's on the verge of missing the last Metro home, if he doesn't get going. But Tony's still supposed to be around tomorrow, so they can probably carry on then, sometime.
In any case, it's the most fun he's had at a White House party in ages, possibly ever.
