Honestly, I think this was when the fear of teachers being inappropriate, or students accusing teachers of same started being a big thing. And the result was the removal of privacy for school counseling sessions. At least as I remember it.

Could also be a weird filming thing. Like when they film people talking in the next room privately when IRL, there's no way the other person wouldn't hear every word. Does that make sense?

Yeah, that makes sense. Like when people have loud conversations in public about things that are supposed to be secret.
