She has made it very clear to him that they are extremely over. So, even though he did it for her, Spike going to get a soul is not really her business.

someone compares Angel turning back time in I Will Remember You and not telling Buffy to Spike getting a soul and not telling Buffy. What? No! It's not in the least bit the same. Like you said Angel and Buffy were an item, at the point Spike goes and gets his soul, he and Buffy are (as my dad would say) are on the outs. I totally agree with ragnarok_08, that getting his soul is a personal decision and not something up for a group discussion.

We all know the value Buffy puts on having a soul. She has implied, several times that Spike was less, because he didn't have one. Why would Spike tell Buffy what he was going to do? It's not like she thought souls were bad and she would object. One of the reasons Spike went to get his soul was because he knew how important Buffy thought it was to have a soul. AND he knew that her having slept with someone without one hurt her.

Good point - Spike already knew Buffy's opinion on the matter, while Angel also knew Buffy's opinion and went against it without consulting her.
