Seeking book recommendations

What should I read next, please? Just got through with a Doris Lessing, and while I kind of get it, it'd be a relief to dig into something perhaps a little less painful and self-absorbed (though, self-absorbed is a weird word to use on something written in the third person).

You can set up a Shelfari account - or even better I'm sending you an invite - and look at my recommendations.

That being said, here's some books that come to mind:

"The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight In Heaven"
- Sherman Alexie

"The Devil in the Kitchen"
- Marco Pierre White

"Freakonomics"
- Stephen Levitt & Stephen Dubner

"Pattern Recognition"
- William Gibson

Some of the really good stuff I've read lately:

The Spanish Bow by Andromeda Romano-Lux. Based loosely on the life of cellist Pablo Casals, it has music, Spanish history, Franco, Hitler and more music.

Pride & Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith. I hate Jane Austen but I loved this book.

The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson - a porn star is in a fiery wreck and burned over 90% of his body. He's visited in the hospital by a certified crazy person (she is actually a patient in the hospital at one point), who knows things about him that no one could possibly know and claims to have known him in 12th century Germany, when she nursed him back to health from horrible burns...and she might just be telling the truth. Loved it much.

Fool by Christopher Moore. The story of King Lear (with a much better ending) told by a vulgar and overly-horny court jester.
